A Greenwich Village Historic District Town Hall on its Present & Future

Wednesday September 25

6:00 PM  –  7:30 PM

The LGBT Center
200 W. 13th St.

Designated fifty years ago in 1969, the Greenwich Village Historic District covers over 100 blocks and more than 2,200 buildings, and is one of the great historic and neighborhood preservation success stories. But is all alright? Can we do better? Do more? Are our landmarking protections being adequately enforced, or are they being applied too rigidly? Should the district expand? Is it working for some of its residents, businesses, property owners and institutions, but not others? What do we want the next half-century of landmark protections and regulation of this historic district to look like?

Join Village Preservation Executive Director Andrew Berman for a town hall addressing these issues and more. We’ll be joined by representatives of community organizations, elected officials, business groups, and preservation organizations to put it all on the table and see what we can do to ensure that one of New York’s oldest and still largest landmark districts thrives and grows into the 21st century, while maintaining what we love best about it.

Co-sponsored by The Village Alliance, City Council Speaker Corey Johnson, State Senator Brad Hoylman, State Assemblymember Deborah Glick, and City Councilmember Margaret Chin, Manhattan Community Board 2, and the Historic Districts Council.

This event is fully accessible
